Free Crochet Pattern | Rinske Square

Let me introduce you to my latest free crochet granny square I've named Rinske. I've partnered with the talented Julie Yeager Designs and her 2019 Block a Week series to share with you a 12" (30.5cm) square that's loaded with typical Felted Button color and texture.

Riverstone Asanas -- Updated Blanket Pattern

One of the most gratifying things about designing crochet patterns is seeing what people are able to do with my patterns as a spark of inspiration to make a piece uniquely their own. Just recently, a fellow crocheter, April, shared with me a little tweaking she did with my Asanas Blanket pattern.

Isn't it beyond lovely!? And she has been kind enough to write up all the details for you so you can make one of your own. Here's April...

Window to the Whirl Part 2

Last week I shared the free crochet pattern for Part 1 of my Window to the Whirl Blanket which included the panel with the nifty little "windows" created by the intermeshing crochet technique. Today I'm sharing Part 2 of the blanket. This section, made with its own coordinating Scheepjes Whirl, is really rhythmic and relaxing but perfectly highlights the gradient fade of the yarn. Let's get on with the details of how you can crochet your own.

When you've completed your intermeshing panel, grab your second whirl. The one below is Murderous Mint (C) from the Scheepjes Whirl Ombre Collection and your Whirlette in Liquorice (A), and poise that hook.

Window to the Whirl Free Crochet Pattern Part 1

The flowers of spring are now officially proclaiming their presence here in Utah--the pinks and purples of the phlox, the vibrant red tulips, the bright white blooms of candytuft, the pale pink floral popcorn adorning the cherry trees, and brilliant yellow of the creeping buttercups. They all make me happy as they foretell of the warm and colorful days of summer. But no matter the time of year, my hook stays busy trying to keep up with the colorful ideas in my head. Remember my Window to the Whirl Blanket that I shared here?

Today I'm sharing Part 1 of the crochet pattern with you. Why only Part 1? I quickly realized during the pattern writing phase, that this pattern took a little bit of explaining beyond what some other designs might require. And a blog post with the whole pattern might be a bit overwhelming for you and for me. So I'm sharing Part 1 today, and will provide Part 2 next week in a separate post to simplify things a bit. Next week the PDF for the whole pattern will be available for a small fee--ad-free and with all the pictures in a section together so printing is easy peasy.

So let's get on with the pattern for Part 1, which is this panel--Section 1...

Trio Update and Whirl WIP

Have you made a Trio Blanket yet? It seems like so many have made at least one, and many people have shared with me the multiple Trios they've made. I recently made up a lovely new Trio with three Scheepjes Whirl Ombre cakes. Wanna see?

Why do you think it has been so popular? Maybe it's because it's a super rhythmic and relaxing crochet project with a gloriously magical effect. In other words, the yarn does all the hard work! Isn't that fade terrifically cool? Such a different vibe going from rich and intense to pale and pastel.

Duo Shawl Free Crochet Pattern

It's that time of year when things are starting to warm up a bit in Utah. But spring in Utah is a bit like a yo-yo--up and down, up and down--like it's teasing us and making us believe things are really going to change. This is a fabulous time for a lightweight shawl to cover my shoulders and warm my neck when it's a bit chilly, but breathe during the warmer spells so I can go outside without a coat.

So I made up a new shawl...

Last week I popped in to show you my new Asanas Pillow cover that I made from my Asanas Blanket square. Today is the day to share with you the free crochet pattern.

You can read my thoughts  about the bulky and heavenly Scheepjes Namaste yarn here.

I decided that the texture of this square called for a touchable and squishy pillow, so let's get on with it...

5th Dimension Scarf -- Free Crochet Pattern

The 5th Dimension Blanket CAL is now underway as folks are busy gathering materials and working out their gauge. I decided it might be fun to share "one dimension" of the pattern with you. See, when I was designing the blanket in panels, the first one I made magically made its own little scarf design.

Asanas Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

Hellooo!! I hope things are well in your neck of the woods. My neck of the woods is Utah. And here, it's cold in November!! Which makes me want to snuggle up in my comfy orange crocheting chair with the fire and a cozy blanket over my legs for some added warmth while I play with hook and yarn. What better time to introduce to you my newest free pattern...

Pom Pom Blanket Edging {Tutorial}

Last week I shared my newest free crochet pattern, my Warp and Weft Blanket. AS the finishing touch, I added this really whimsical pom pom edging around the border and am really happy with how it turned out.
Today I wanted to share a tutorial on how to work the little bobbles of fun!

Every Bit a Blanket {Free Pattern}

I have always loved a rainbow. When I was a kid my bedroom was actually decorated in a rainbow with bold rainbow bedding and blue carpeting. In my wedding, every bridesmaid wore a different bright color accent. And you should see my house now!! It's been bombed with color. (I figure if you use ALL of the colors, nothing has to match, right?) So that's what I did with my latest blanket design. MUST. USE. ALL. THE. COLORS.

Last week I teased you with some photos of my newest blanket pattern here made with Scheepjes Cahlista Colour Pack* that I shared about here. Today is the day I share the free crochet pattern with you.

Every Bit a Blanket Reveal

Today is the day for a revelation! If you saw last week's post (here) about the new project I've been working on using Scheepjes Cahlista, you know that I've been having an '84 ball blast' with all of my favorite colors! (Guess what, I claim no real favorite colors--just a few that sing to me more quietly.)

Wanna see?

Find Your Tribe Scarf {Free Crochet Pattern}

When I thought about designing something with my very own Scheepjes Our Tribe* colorway (Felted Button), I knew that I needed to 1) make something that is authentically ME, and 2) make something that I would actually wear. You can read a bit about my design process here and here, but I'm here today to share with you the free crochet pattern for my Find Your Tribe Scarf.

Find Your Tribe Scarf -- free crochet pattern from Felted Button

I think I did a pretty good job of meeting both requirements! The colors are, of course, very ME, but the whimsical tasseled edges are, as well. And I've worn this baby, a lot! So, if you would like to make one for yourself, let's get to the pattern...

Find Your Tribe Scarf Reveal

I don't know about you, but the start of a new year often gives me a little burst of creative energy. And I find that I must have lots of color around me. It could be the gray, cold air of my Rocky Mountain winter, but regardless, I've been having a blast playing with lots of rainbow-colored, yarny goodness.

Last week I showed you a peek at a colorful design I made using Scheepjes Our Tribe in my very own colorway (Felted Button--selected by yours truly).

If you haven't got your hook into any Whirls yet, I suggest you give this magical yarn a try. You can read my thoughts about it here, here and here. This is my third blanket designed with it and two more coming this year! It's simply, well, magical, like I said. Such varied effects can be achieved depending on your color choices and the order you use the three cakes.

Trio Blanket Revealed

Last week I popped in to share with you a sneak peek of one of my designs, but now I can show you the Trio Blanket in all of its glory!!

Trio Blanket (free crochet pattern) by Susan Carlson of Felted Button

I made mine with three Scheepjes Whirls* (Green Tea Tipple, Sea Breeze Tease and Minty Black Velvet) shown above. Isn't it cool how the contrast starts out so sharp fades to a washed color in the middle and back to a sharp contrast? I've said before that this yarn is magic. Yep. Magic on your hook!

Phone Pouch Free Crochet Pattern

Since my return from Scheepjes Blogger Days things have been swirling in my head. Just being with my "peeps" has bloomed so many ideas that I couldn't get them all done in a year. But, of course, I'll give it a good try. ;)

Left to right: Maria (Fifty Shades of 4 Ply), Jellina (jellina-creations), Carmen (Craftyqueens), Esther (Happy in Red), Tammy (Canadutch), Esther (It's all in a Nutshell). Me, Dedri (Look at what I Made), Christa (TheCurioCraftsRoom), Nerissa (MissNeriss), Tatsiana (LillaBjorns Crochet), Kirsten (HaakMaarRaak)
I'm currently waiting for some Scheepjes Whirl* to arrive. (Oh. My. Goodness. I am having a love affair with that yarn.) So, while trying to be patient, I have to keep my hook moving. (Tell me you do this, too. I am not good at being still.) I thought I would pop in today and share the stitch pattern I've been playing around with. I also got my hands on a really nifty purse frame that screamed to be used. Here's what I came up with...
