I'm super excited to share the free crochet pattern for my Petrichor Hood today! I shared my thoughts about the Scheepjes Stonewashed* yarn I have used to make it here and revealed the hood to you here, but today is the day for you to get your hooks flying! It works up in just a few hours and has a lovely result.

Mind the Gap: Avoiding the Turning Chain Hole
Do you dislike the pesky little gaps left by the ch 3 turn when working rows of double crochet?
See how obnoxious?
Part of the problem is that a ch 3 just does not have enough width and substance to look like its neighboring dc. Secondly, it is supposed to replace a dc, so you skip that stitch right after the ch 3 which only exacerbates the problem. Hence, ugly hole. An additional "bug" for me is that working into a ch is always harder than the top of a normal stitch when you get back on the next row.
Before I figured out some better options, I tried working a ch-2 instead which worked a titch better but not much.
So I have 3 options that I'll show you. You can use whichever is the easiest for you and gives you the result you desire. I use all three at times depending on the project at hand.

Blocking it Out
Today's topic: BLOCKING
I'm not talking about blocking those telemarketers repeat phone calls, or building wooden towers with your little ones. I'm talking about the kind done to make your crochet work look fabulous! I mean, seriously professional vs. lumpy and amateurish. Do you ever wonder why your finished piece doesn't look like the one in that picture on the front of the pattern? It might just be because of BLOCKING!
Let's start with some squares. Since I'm all about motifs, and buttons, I thought these from my Bright as a Button Blanket might

::How-to Crochet Post Stitches::
Remember this little design--my Paintbrush Pillow & Afghan pattern?
As maybe you can tell, it has some post stitches. Front Post and Back Post stitches are those stitches used for cabling and other texture in crochet that produce a raised ridge that looks so nifty and pretty.
If you've ever struggled with them...
