Skittles Blanket
It's a party of color, I tell ya! And with fun texture, too. I had someone tell me
I made it with one of my favorite yarns--Scheepjes Colour Crafter.
There are lots of reasons why I love working with this yarn, but here are a few:
~with generous 100g center-pull skeins at a very affordable price, they are perfect for blankets and other larger projects
~I'm finding that the DK weight is heavy enough for a bit of warmth, but not too heavy to sit under while working in warmer weather--again, perfect for blankets
~the premium acrylic is easy care, doesn't pill or fuzz, and is super soft--again, ideal for blankets
~have you seen the colors?!!! Again, perfect for blankets--and ME!

I have taken the time to write up a PDF printable pattern for you--because I know how much nicer they are to work from--and it has been thoroughly tested for accuracy. DeleteJust ordered the pack! Thank you so much for yet another great design! Quick question: how much yarn was left over? I think I want to make mine slightly longer.
ReplyDeleteIn the pattern it states it, I think. As I recall, there was nearly half of each of the colors, but almost all of the contrasting color was used (2 balls), so if you want to make it larger, you'll need to order more of that one (Almelo, I believe it is called.)

Hi. I recently started the Skittle blanket and love it! Thank you for the pattern. I do have a question...how many stitches should be in rows 3, 5, and 6? I am assuming 160 but want to make sure since I seem to have lost a couple stitches somewhere and I am now on row 8.

Good assumption. There should be 160 on all of those rows.

I've started this blanket but in doing row 2 after 163 chains an dc in 4th at end I have 161 dc counting the chain 3 as one of stitches. I've redone an redone an still come up with the same. What am i doing wrong? I'm a old timer at crochet but having trouble with this one. Do I count the ch 3 at turn as a dc with the total of 160? Confused...
ReplyDeleteIf you dc in the 4th ch, that means you are skipping 3 chains of the 163, which leaves 160 dc and the turning ch. If you count the ch, that is 161.

ReplyDeleteThis means to drop the main color to the wrong side without cutting the yarn. You'll just pick it back up again when you come around after the next round. You can cut it, if you prefer, but that just means a few more ends to weave.

DeleteYes! Exactly. This way the stitches are grouped which gives a bit different texture. Congrats on your crocheting adventure. It's such a fun and relaxing craft. And you are clever to try a bunch of different designers. Although I strive to follow industry standards, there are always little "preferences" and wording differences between designers. Best to you!
Is the yarn package from Wool Warehouse enough for this gorgeous Skittles blanket, I live in the U.S. and if I had to buy more at a later time, it would be costly to buy a few extra skeins. Thank you for the gorgeous pattern.
ReplyDeleteThe yarn kit is enough to make the blanket as sized in the pattern. If you want to make it larger, you will need more.
DeleteI have crocheted a long time and have the kit for skittles blanket. I love the colors. There must be a trick to finding the end of the yarn to pull from the center. I have looked at all the balls and can't seem to find it. I have taken apart 2 balls from center and found the end but there must be an easier way. Have never encountered this before. Thanks for any help.
ReplyDeleteI typically don't work from the center, but rather the outside, although my favorite is to cake them so I always have a center pull. I hope this helps.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry for any confusion. Row 7 should be a row of dc with the turning ch as the first st. So, no, do not put a sc, dc in the last stitch of Row 6. My copy (which may have been updated since you downloaded yours) says to sk the first st for Row 3--again because the starting ch 3 counts as the first dc. I hope this helps.
