It is quite cold here--turn on the furnace kind of cold. But what a wonderful weekend! My daughter, Lizzie Love, came to visit. We talked, laughed, thrift store shopped, watched General Conference (my favorite weekend of the year!) and thoroughly enjoyed being together. She only lives 30 minutes away, but with our crazy busy lives we still don't get together nearly enough. While she was here, I had her model my Rainbow Stripe Cowl.
I must say, I am thoroughly thrilled with it! She liked it so much she wanted one, too. But as she is a Tim Burton Black/White stripe fan, I made hers a bit different.
In fact, I pretty much redesigned the entire thing. The only thing the same is that it is striped. In other words--a NEW design by SUE! But that is for another post! Very soon, I hope!
Now here are just two of the vintage thrift store finds...
Oh, dear, I can hardly breathe I am so excited! The colors! The beaded and ruffled trim! And I got eight dinner plates and eight salad plates for only $8! Only a few little chips. Very good vintage condition! SO. VERY. EXCITED.
Would it be all too strange to use these for Thanksgiving? I don't typically limit myself by colors--so I think I'll make it a pink Thanksgiving this year! Maybe pink and green...remember these fabulous Pyrex dishes I found?
Next big find...
I did an embarrassing little happy dance and squeal when I came across this baby. $4! Anyone know anything about the age or name of this lamp? The shade balances on a milk glass diffuser. And this lamp is crazy heavy! As I typically do in the thrift store, I walk in thinking I am just going to look--not buy. And so I never get a shopping cart. I needed one with this lamp! Very heavy, indeed!

During Singing Time at Primary on Sunday, Eric brought Rupert (his ventriloquiest dummy that he got for Christmas) to help the children learn "How Firm a Foundation". We dressed him up in Luke's white shirt and tie, put on some missionary name badges, and found a cool vintage suitcase at the DI so Rupert could really be a "BOX ELDER-ite". Rupert was supposed to behave as "Not-so-reverent Rupert" and interrupt the teaching of the song with lots of silly jokes. Eric helped LeAnn with the interpretation of the phrases of the hymn. Eric was such a hit! And he really loved stepping out of his typically reserved self to be in the spotlight and get everyone laughing. Here are a few of his jokes:

My mom is always getting on me about cleaning up my spills. I told her I always do. And I have the stains on my shirt to prove it.
Afterwards, Eric wondered if folks might ask for him to do birthday parties. Cute, huh? It was such an awesome opportunity for him to share a talent and really let loose. Thanks, LeeAnn for allowing him to participate!
Another post about Luke--Sunday he was a bit under the weather with a runny nose and a cough so we stayed home while Lizzie and Eric went off to meetings. I thought it was better for me to stay home rather than Lizzie since she has a new goal this year of attending all of her meetings. By Monday, Luke was apparently a little stir crazy. And he is a bit like me in that he doesn't care where he is going, he just likes to go places. (My mom recalls many times when we would have been out driving for over thirty minutes before I would even ask where we were going--to me it didn't really matter!) So I asked him, "Do you want to go bye-bye?" He emphatically replied, "I do!" I asked, "Where do you want to go?" He raised his fists above his head and yelled, "Church!" I hope he always displays such enthusiasm for attending church!!
