Which one are you? I'm an ugly hooker. Yes. It's true. The pencil grip just feels funny to me. I guess in the end, what really matters is that the end product is pretty, huh?
I'm getting ever so close to finishing this new pattern--just dreaming up a border and doing some little ties. Look for it on Monday--fingers crossed.
I'm off to do some UGLY hooking--and hopefully the results will be, well, not so ugly.
Happy Hooking to you all!

I'm an ugly hooker, too. I tried to do the pencil grip, but that's not my world.

I too am an ugly hooker. Every once in awhile I do the "pencil" thing but it takes me tooooo long to do it. I'm content with being ugly :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a JOYful weekend!!
I'm a pretty hooker. But I did find it hard when I tried Tunisian crochet as you have to be an ugly hooker then. i got used to it but boy was it slow going!
ReplyDeletePretty blanket! I'm an ugly hooker. :-( haha
ReplyDeleteYou know I hook like I'm hoeing a ditch!
ReplyDeleteHaha I'm an ugly hooker too! I found the pencil grip way to hard once I've got used to the overhand grip. Well It doesn't really matter anyway as long as you can crochet right!
ReplyDeleteLove, Kirsten
Ugly ... But I do hold my little finger us to add a poshness to it! X
ReplyDeleteI'm a the Pretty one. But when I hook with the Zpachetti yarn than I'm the Ugly one. With the thicker needle I cant get the pencilgrip. My hands are too small for that. hahah.
ReplyDeleteNice discusion haha!
Greeting from the Netherlands, Hendrika
i'm both ... depends on the thickness of the yarn and the project!
ReplyDelete'Overhand' is easier when hooking sturdy yarn for a basket for instance where more force is needed, while working with thinner yarn and a 'normal' project goes faster with the pencil grip ...
Guess I'm a little special :-))
I'm neither, just a sewer :) I do envy those who can - very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to invite you to stop by our weekly Meet & Greet Blog Hop! It runs from Friday night through the end of Monday. Come link up if you have some time this weekend :)

I'm a pretty one unless I use my huge hooks and thick yarn then I'm an ugly one :)
ReplyDeleteI am an ugly hooker! But I try not to make it look like I'm cutting a steak. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm a "pretty" hooker, but only because my great grandmother INSISTED that I crochet that way. In my adult years, I've done a bit of research on crochet hook grip styles. Here's a fact: Throughout the 1800s, women were taught the "pretty" style of crochet, because it did, in fact, look more feminine. It was THE only style taught. So I guess great grandma just passed on her style to me. Perpetuating the pretty pose. (how's that for alliteration?) :-) BTW, thanks for a great site. You're on my Top Ten list of favorites.
ReplyDeleteLol! I'm so not surprised that they taught "pretty" hooking in the 1800's! I suppose what really matters is the end result, though, right?!
