Here are just a few reasons why I love it.
It is:
Perfect for a beginner
Perfectly striped--who doesn't love stripes?
Perfectly drapey
Perfectly easy to adjust the size/dimensions
Perfectly simple--a pattern that doesn't 'strain the brain'
Perfectly speedy project for one you need by Christmas
Perfectly versatile color options--with more or fewer or NO stripes
Perfect for a gift for anyone
I decided to make it from these fruity, delightful colors because they make me happy. But you could make it in colors that are subdued and neutral, or match a nursery or bedroom.
It is made from sport/DK weight yarn. The specific yarns I used are from Hobby Lobby and outlined in the pattern. I decided to write up the pattern for you in PDF form so it is easy for you to print and take with you. Hop over to my LoveCrafts shop here and download yourself a free copy or visit my Etsy shop here and support me by getting your copy with a small fee. You might want to pin it now so you don't forget about it later, too. Just hover over the picture and click. It will link you here!
I have not had this pattern tested, so please let me know if you find any errors.
I've been working frantically in the background on several other things, but my Design Wars project is FINISHED!! I can hardly wait for you to see it! Oh, wow! This has been so much fun so far. By the way, the Design Wars newsletter Issue 13 comes out tomorrow with more sneak peeks of the designs. If you haven't signed up yet, do here, because then you get to sneak your peek first! And you'll get the word when voting opens first, and you'll find out who wins first! (I like being first, don't you?)
Here's a little glimpse at something I've been working on when I just need the rhythm of crocheting without thinking--a simple linen stitch piece--maybe a cowl? It's making the most beautiful piece of colored fabric. I really love it. I'll share more details if/when I finish this one.
Join with me on Facebook here if you haven't. That way you'll be in the "Button Loop" on all of the Felted Button happenings.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this! I just picked up crocheting and making this my first crochet blanket. One problem I run into is at row 6 I end up with more stiches then prev rows, any idea what I have done wrong?
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome. Hmmm. I'm not certain, but remember, besides the 2 dc in the sc at the beginning and ending of the row, you should have a (dc, ch 1, dc) in each loop and a (dc, ch 1, dc) in each sc. I hope this helps.
DeleteI absolutely love this blanket, have bought the same colors and started going with it! Loving the pattern and am so excited for this beautiful blanket! I love that it is essentially gender neutral (as long as the girl has a bow on ;)
ReplyDeleteI love that it has so many possibilities with color, too! I hope you enjoy it!

ReplyDeleteI don't think my post went through so I am going to try again. Forgive me if this is a duplicate post. I am having trouble with understanding the pattern. I have worked all the way through the first Stripe Rows1-4 and now am on Stripe 2 Row5-6 which are completed. I do not understand how to do the Reps of row 2 and the count of Rows remain on track. Do I work Row 2 with 2 Reps of it as Rows 7-8 and finish this stripe up with Row 9 being worked as Row 4? I know this is confusing. Help me to understand how to continue working the pattern with the reps of row2. When it says repeat row 2 say twice or three times does that mean all in a row or work it once then go to Row 4,5,6 and then rep Row 2 again and continue this way? PLEASE help me. Thanks, Daniele
ReplyDeleteDaniele,
DeleteThanks for your question. First thing I would say, is don't stress! The stripes, although detailed in the pattern specifically, can just as easily be worked to whatever random width you prefer. On the 3rd stripe, you will be working Row 2 twice (Blanket rows 10,11) and then working repeat rows 4, 5, 6 (Blanket rows 12, 13, 14). On the 4th stripe, you work row 2 six times (Blanket rows 15, 16, 17, 18 19, 20) before working repeat rows 4, 5, 6 (Blanket rows (21, 22, 23). I hope this helps clarify for you! You got this, girl!
I am having trouble with the end of row 5. I ended up with 2 DC and my chain three. The instructions tell me to do 5 sc's between each small section while skipping 5. When I get to the end, do I sc 5 before ending with an sc in the chain 3? I have a feeling my count may be off but I don't know where....
ReplyDeleteChris,
DeleteFollow the repeat to the end of the row. Just put your last sc in the turning chain.
Thanks for your help. I revoked at my count and I think when I first started and it said to DC in the first stitch, I actually did that in the last DC of the previous row. That made my count 2 stitches off so I tore everything out back to Row 1 (OMG) and I am almost where I get to change colors....Now I am crossing my fingers that this works out!! I love the pattern BTW..... Looking forward to following you further.
DeleteGorgeous pattern!! Just lovely, and the instructions are easy for the beginner to follow!! My Mum is now the proud owner of a blanket made in this pattern. Thanks again :)
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome, Erinne. I hope your Mum enjoys it!
DeleteThank you for another beautiful pattern. I have admired your work since I embarked on my "Year of Afghans" plan. I found another while browsing that will also be perfect. I love your use of color. Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome! I hope you enjoy it!
DeleteHello! Love the pattern! This is my first blanket and I hope I'm not too green! I'm having trouble with the pattern row. Is it asking me to double crochet in the first stitch, the repeat the double crochet chain one double crochet in every stitch to the end of the row , stopping 3 stitches from the end and skipping next then 2 double crochets, 2 double crochet in the third chain of the previous turning chain then turn.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm not understanding the part that says "...in each ch-1 sp across to within last 3 system" I'm not sure what sp stands for?
Hope this isn't too silly of a question! Very much appreciate the help!!
No silly questions! Sp is the abbreviation for space. If you have further questions, please contact me via pm on my Facebook page.
DeleteHello Susan can u plz tell me where can i get the free pattern? Thanks
ReplyDeleteClick to my Ravelry shop or Craftsy shop linked above. You can download the pattern from there.
