A Window into my WIP

Helllloooo, my beautiful friends! I hope things have been wonderful in your little part of the world and that you've had lots of time to crochet and enjoy the changing seasons. I'm particularly in love with this time of year--spring in Utah--where the crocus and daffodils peek through the oft-times snow-covered ground and offer a hint of pending warmth and color and outdoor play! Besides being yarn and color-obsessed, I'm a bit flower obsessed. So is my daughter, Lizzie. For years, we've dreamed of opening a floral shop together so we can smell, arrange, display and design with colorful blooms. And this season always re-ignites that desire. Even when that dream comes to fruition, I'll still never abandon my love for hook and yarn. Last week I shared a few things that were on my hook, but today I'm popping in to show you a "sneaky peeky" of my latest crocheted blanket happiness.

Windowed Whirl Blanket by Susan Carlson of Felted Button -- Colorful Crochet Blankets

This is the first "panel" of a blanket-to-be that I worked up with a single Scheepjes Whirl and a few Whirlettes for the window panes. You know about my love affair with Whirl at this point. If not, you can read here, here, here, here, here, here and here. (Did you click through to those patterns?) It's magical yarn and certainly did its magic here with the glorious gradient colors.

I used the Key Lime Pi for this sample and love its gradient with the citron center, bright lime and rich and moody green. Even though this yarn is magic and I was thrilled with this panel, I still had a little brain freeze...so it into time-out it went...for MONTHS...sadly waiting in the corner for inspiration to strike. I simply struggled to settle on how to grow it into a fully-fledged blanket. Believe me, I tried. I spent weeks making various motifs, experimenting with different stitch patterns, imagining the options. Time-out for you! And then...the Ombre Collection was released. See that Citrus Squeeze? See that Murderous Mint? They go brilliantly with Key Lime Pi. My panel had officially been released from time-out!

I'm still hooking away to finish the blanket and am silly-pleased with how it's coming together. Can you say, magic yarn, again?
