There are so many things about this blanket that make me happy...the little gift boxes, the bows, the simple fun, the border (that lays so flat and has the perfect heft to it), the options for size and color, the portability of squares, and the COLORS! Well, of course, the colors.
I used Scheepjes Colour Crafter* in 21 colors total. (The border/joining color is not shown.) If you would like to read why I think this yarn is terrific, read here.
See those two blues? They are both so pretty, but after getting the whole thing made up...

I also got a blocking board from Scheepjes that works brilliantly with these squares (although all of the squares were not blocked in the pic above). Some folks say that blocking acrylic is pointless. I completely disagree! Wet blocking for me--even with acrylic--makes a huge difference! You can see this post here for a little tute on how I do mine.
This thoroughly tested pattern includes:
--complete materials list including yarn colors I used (22 skeins: 1 ball for each of 20 "gifts" and 2 for the joining/border)
--written instructions (US terms) for making the blanket and border and putting it all together
--special stitches, stitch abbreviations and notes
--color placement chart that you can make your own if you want
--lots of pictures to help you through--particularly if you are a newer crocheter (I've rated the pattern as intermediate, but with the pictures I think an ambitious beginner could pull it off.) By the way, you don't need to print the pictures to complete the pattern--they are just there for extra help, if needed.
Can I talk about color some more? A follower, Laraine, suggested Christmas colors. It would make such a perfect afghan for Christmas gifting and decor. And what if you made it in all neutral gifts (possibly ombre from the top of the blanket to the bottom) and added really bright ribbons and bows! Oh, this process gets my brain swirling!
You can find the pattern in my shops along with all of my other paid and free patterns.
I hope you find the Gifted Blanket fun. And hope your life is colorful and happy. I've got lots of exciting things happening behind the scenes so stay in the "Button" loop on my Facebook page here, on Instagram (@FeltedButton) or sign up for my newsletter.(I promise not to bombard your inbox!)
