Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! I'm pleased to introduce the Brighton Blanket in all its glory! And it is FREE for you to enjoy!
I stumbled upon the stitch pattern over at MyPicot.com and decided to give it a try because I love the texture and intricacy and ripples and possibilities with color! Sounds right down my alley, huh?
I chose I Love This Cotton from Hobby Lobby because it has a fabulous color selection, is very affordable and cotton shows stitch definition so well. But you could choose any yarn in any weight. (I'm working on a cowl in this pattern using a fingering yarn that is fabulous!) I even think this would make a pretty stash-busting project.
After playing around with the color changes, I finally came up with this--see how the color just peeks through on the front? Little hints of it. But look at the back...
...it is so beautiful it could be the FRONT! And the texture!!!
I've written up a complete PDF for you that includes:
~thoroughly-tested and printable written instructions
~a complete materials list including yarn colors, total yardage and number of skeins used in this sample
~notes section including how to adjust the blanket to any dimensions you want
~detailed special stitches and stitch abbreviations (in standard US terms)
~nearly 50 photos with descriptions to walk you through if you need some extra help (and are visual like me!)
The pattern is a little tricky at the start, but only because it has such a long repeat and requires a bit of focus. But after you get rolling, it is really fun to crochet!

DeleteSusan, thanks so much for sharing this beautiful pattern with us! I am having some problems with it and I hope you can help!! I have begun the pattern 4 times now and every time I end up with 6 sc6tog and 24 ch-5 spaces. I have counted stitches so many times that I am counting in my sleep!! I even have kept going with the pattern until the repeat is finished and at some point it just does not work out. what am I doing wrong???? I have not had any trouble understanding the pattern.

DeleteIt is hard to assess where the trouble is occurring, but it sounds like you have too many stitches and therefore another partial repeat. Are you decreasing across 6 stitches on your sc6tog or working them all in the same stitch (you shouldn't be doing this one.) If not, I may need to see a photo of your work. Aaah that must be where I'm going wrong too! Now it makes much more sense!

DeleteHello! I unfortunately am having problems with the stitch as well. In the beginning it says to chain 249 .. I follow through with round one . I get the right amount of sc6tog as well as the 5-ch sps. Yet I always seem to have about forty or so stitches on the end extra. Am I chaining too many in the beginning? Or am I going wrong somewhere in row one ? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can figure since you are off by so many stitches, is that you are not decreasing six stitches into one on the sc6tog. Thank you for posting the pattern, too--I saw this one on MyPicot, but having just splurged on two patterns from Felted Button, didn't feel I should yet buy another one; now I can make this gorgeous blanket for a pregnant coworker (she loves purple and pink, and I have those, plus a gorgeous Red Heart yarn that combines purple, pink, turquoise and green)!

ReplyDeleteSo sorry, Joyce. I do not have the ability to do video at this time. Because the repeat is so very long, it is tough to keep track of counts. I suggest placing a stitch marker after each repeat to be certain you are on the right track.
